Repeats

If a passage is to be repeated exactly as it was played the first time, repeat signs are used.

Repeat Signs

Repeat signs normally occur at the beginning or end of a measure, and in so doing take the place of barlines.

The music in between the repeat signs is played twice unless otherwise specified.  If there is no opening repeat sign, the music is repeated from the beginning.
