Arpeggios

An arpeggio is a chord whose notes are played sequentially.

C Major arpeggio, 2 octaves, ascending and descending

Arpeggios are often used both in accompaniment and in melodic lines.  Whether you are playing a notated composition, playing from a fake book or lead sheet, or improvising, facility with arpeggios can greatly improve your technical ability.
