Recording Session

Sunday, December 21, 2008

So, this afternoon I went over to Peter's house and we worked on recording the chorale.  We focused on tone quality and diction, and we got some pretty good takes.  Apparently this is quite a lengthy process.  Peter tells me that for a professional recording, you can work 4 days straight just to get a good take of one person singing one track.  The singer records the track several times, and then you compare the different versions and take the best bits of each.  That was useful to know.  For the final recording, we plan to have 12 voices, 2 on a part.  I'm really looking forward to hearing the finished version!

[Update]  He estimates another 24 hours to complete this first draft; that will be 8 more 3-hour sessions.

For a scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream.  He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.
