Invitation to Prayer

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

One of the things Jesus clearly reveals to us is that God is personal, approachable, and deeply concerned about our well-being.  Over and over Jesus extends the invitation to come to Him, to trust in Him, to put our faith in Him.  He is the author of all creation, and nothing is too difficult for Him.

Life, on the other hand, is full of challenges and difficulties.  Who doesn't have any needs or concerns?  If you aren't already doing so daily, I invite you to entrust your concerns into the loving hands of the Father.  You can call out to Him.  Whether your thoughts are for yourself or for someone you care about, God's compassion for you and the issues that burden your heart is limitless.

Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
Psalm 103:13
Whoever comes to Me I will never drive away.
John 6:37

I'm reminded of these lines from the hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus":

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

When we trust our heavenly Father, and rest secure in His unfailing love, the result is peace.

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26
